Russians farming was in the black earth belt northeast from the Romanian border and included Ukraine, Central Agricultural Region, Middle Volga, south-west Urals and south-western Siberia.. They farmed on the steppes because they had the best type of land for farming. Soon after they started to grow things like sugar beet, sunflower, and cotton. Russia learned how to do crop rotations also, where they planted according to the seasons.
Agricultural challenges
The soil in Russia isn't very great. They went into cottage industry, live stock breeding and relying on their imports to provide them with grains. Russia is now part of a market based system. They relied on government assistance to help provide their markets with things. Russia also tries to increase the productivity of grains and decrease meat imports.
